From BigLaw to a Sunnyvale living room
As a student working in the Community Law Clinic at Stanford Law, Jake Heller was struck by how inaccessible legal information was compared to information in other fields. He saw firsthand how the expensive tools from Lexis and Westlaw put small law firms, public service attorneys, and indigent individuals at a disadvantage. Many couldn’t afford to use those services for even 20 minutes a day—how could there be equal access to justice when there wasn’t even equal access to the text of the law itself?
